RJ-11 interface RJ-11 interface is the usual telephone line interface. RJ-11 was originally a general name for connectors developed by Western Electric Co. Its appearance is defined as a 6-pin connection device, formerly named WexW. The x here indicates “liveness”, the contact or the needle. For example, WE6W has all 6 contacts, numbered 1 to 6; WE4W interface only uses 4 pins, and the outermost two contacts (1 and 6) do not need to be; WE2W only uses the center two pins. RJ-11 is not only used to represent the 6-pin connector, it also refers to the 4-pin version.
